So, from the look of the latest poll there seems to be some variety in gold making ideas where it comes to professions.

Everyone knows that one thing which provides a constant income is selling off all forms of mats. The lower level ones don't make thousands but it does tick up over time and keeps you more than going.

The crafting professions seem to work as gold makers for some and not others. How about we share our knowledge and tips on gold amking with each other. This could be listing itens you find sell well that one wouldn't expect. It could be on how to make the most of the auctioneer addon.

SO, What works for you in the art of gold making?

Only kidding. I never seem to be able to make any gold out of professions but hey, I don't put the time in TBH and always try to do it with my own mats. Never know if buying mats is economically viable. That would be one question that would be good to be answered.

Well im a AH shark and thats where i make all my gold. I hate farming mats, so i prefer proff where i dont have to farm a lot - just use what I have and buy the rest off AH. So atm im making the blue pvp items in tailoring for cash. I dont bother farming the volatiles needed, i just buy them off AH. Making the leg ench also seems to make some great profit
And from all the enchant stuff i get from instance/questing i make the most popular scrolls and sell. It vary what sells the best but the weapon ench usually sells very well.
Theres also money to be made in keeping an eye out for cheap epics on AH. Nothing beats buying an item and selling it again with 500% profit

I tend to buy mats from the AH to use them rather than farm. The good thing with auctioneer is being able to spot it when someone has thrown up the odd few mats for 10% of market price when everyone else is selling them at 70% or more. I'll then buy all the bagains, use what I need then resell the left overs in groups of 10, 5 and 1s. Another thing I do with mats when I have 3 or 4 stacks of an item, say peacebloom for example. I'll search the AH and if there are only a few on I'll buy them all then relist my stacks plus the ones I bought using ay least a 200% mark up on the original price.

To answer your question then Tree, IMO mat buying on the AH is economicaly viable IF you're willing to bide your time and find the bargains.

I've tried that with the leather pvp gear and found it to be far more miss than hit, especially with hunter gear. It's interesting that noone has indicated leatherworking as a big gold spinner. Back in the day when you could make cobrahide legarmour and use it on any level toon, plenty of gold was made by Leather Workers, as for now.... it seems a dud profession.

LW is my main's proff, and it isn't worth bothering with at the moment as the mats sell for more than the items. When Cata came out LW was hugely profitable, and with the easy farming of the spiders in Tol Barad it made a fortune for a few weeks.

I guess that all proffs tend to get ups and downs as people realise there's money to be made, join in, and then there are too many people and the prices drop right off.

Quick money? I've been running Shadow Lab on heroic for the last bit of rep. At the moment the fel armaments and marks are selling well, and any BOE stuff gets sent for disenchanting and that raises good money. I reckon I must total near to 500G on a 20 minute run. Often the lower-level mats sell for more than the Cata stuff, and sometimes there's good gold to be made from going back to areas that no-one bothers with.

My experience;

Low level with no big brothers herb and mine, pick the stuff while you're questing. I never bothered trying to work AH just slapped them all in at undercut, nice steady revenue stream and there's nothing to really buy other than skills and mounts so it very quickly builds up.

If you just want steady revenue and the ability to buy whatever you want that does it.

If you want the excitement of big profits then working the AH as described by others can be exciting, but as has been pointed out the values can down down very quickly.

People always want mats, they are like the milk and bread in the supermarket never out of fashion.

The same applies, I think to alchemy, the stuff is consumable so people will come back for more reasonably priced stuff over and over. I only need one epic item.

One downside for me though is that i hate buying mats so I have to get them myself which means some toons just gather to feed my alchemy, tailoring, JC, enchanting and inscription.

Just to add another downside is that when you get obsessed with making money (for me at least) it is hard to spend on overpriced epics.

I just have to wait for drops and stuff usually.

On the making of gold, I always found that tracking the AH and knowing what sold was the most important... its no good making things which cannot be sold for a profit because everybody else makes tons of them, and that means knowing roughly how much things cost to make... which again depends on the AH and a bit of wowhead research
